Rijsterbos is a historic forest located near the village of Rijs in the Gaasterland region of Friesland, Netherlands. Established in 1676 by Amsterdam regent Hiob de Wildt, the forest spans approximately 172 hectares and features stately beech avenues, diverse flora, and fauna. It extends from the village of Rijs to the shores of the IJsselmeer, offering visitors a blend of natural beauty and historical significance. Notable landmarks within the forest include the Peace Temple, originally built in 1814 to commemorate the end of French occupation, and the remnants of "Huize Rijs," a manor house that once stood at the heart of the estate.
