About this place
Landgoed De Slotplaats is a historic estate located near Bakkeveen in Friesland, the Netherlands. Established in 1668 by the Aylva family, the estate originally featured a castle known as the Blauwhuis, which was demolished in 1838. The estate encompasses approximately 200 hectares of diverse landscapes, including ancient beech avenues, coniferous and deciduous forests, heathlands, and historical features such as a star-shaped fortification and a sundial designed by 18th-century scientist Johann Hermann Knoop. Managed by Natuurmonumenten since 1997, De Slotplaats offers a rich blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage, making it a popular destination for hikers, nature enthusiasts, and history buffs.
